Subdural total parenteral nutrition collection: A complication of a peripheral scalp intravenous catheter in a neonate

Abstract. The inability to feed premature infants can require prolonged intravenous (IV) access, often via a peripheral scalp vein. We report a case of a subdural fluid collection and brain injury following scalp IV placement. To our knowledge, this is the first report of such a complication in a neonate.
